In health and social care, the Care Certificate defines the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for specific job roles in this sector. It’s made up of 15 minimum standards that newcomers and everyone working in this field should be familiar with.
These standards take into account of:
- The Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England
- The Chief Nursing Officer for England’s ‘6Cs’. These are care, compassion,
competence, communication, courage, and commitment.
Prior to working without direct supervision, each standard must be completed and assessed. As you meet each individual standard, you could be allowed to do the areas of work covered by that standard without direct supervision. However, you could also need supervision in other areas.
The Care Certificate is an extremely valuable document for any person involved in care because it is proof of competency in the care sector. It also gives everyone confidence that these workers are equipped to provide compassionate, safe, and high-quality care and support based on the same introductory skills, knowledge, and behaviours.
