Principles of COSHH Risk Assessment

This half-day (3 hours) Principles of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Risk Assessment course is designed to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of COSHH risk assessment with an introduction to chemical substances and their effect and hazards.

First of all, the course explains the employers’ duty to comply with legislation governing information and notification related to substances hazardous to health. Even more it will provide the knowledge for supplying, packaging, labelling and controlling dangerous substances and understanding the preparations to use them within the workplace.  Finally the learner will be able to carry out an appropriate risk assessment.

  • How risk assessments can contribute to the safe use of hazardous substances.
  • How to ensure the risks associated with hazardous substances
  • Precautions and procedures.
  • Hierarchy of control measures.
  • Safe use, handling, transporting, storage and disposal.
  • Emergency procedures.
    • People responsible for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) at work.
    • Employees who use hazardous substances in manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport, utilities and offices.
    • People wishing to gain the knowledge to manage hazardous substances.
  • Providing knowledge and understanding of COSHH risk assessment.
  • Developing the skills that are required to carry out an appropriate risk assessment.
  • Supporting learners wishing to progress to further development for COSHH or  a qualification in Health and Safety.
